Digital X-ray

X-ray - Silverdale, WAUtilizing the most accurate and clear x-ray image is important in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with orthopaedic problems and/or injuries. WestSound Orthopaedics in Silverdale, Washington uses a GE digital x-ray system. This system exhibits a much clearer image and provides a higher contrast and resolution when compared to the film/screen method previously used. (The resolution is higher than a human eye can appreciate.) The size and shape of the x-ray system also allows for faster and easier positioning that can lead to less stress for injured or ill patients.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

In order to provide effective treatment for your orthopaedic needs, your physician must begin with an accurate diagnosis. Because exams do not always indicate the extent or severity of an injury or condition, your physician relies on the finest state-of-the-art magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technology available. WestSound Orthopaedics, PS uses the full-body 1.5 GE MRI to provide accurate and timely test results.

MRI is a radiation free exam that produces very clear pictures of the human body without X-rays. It uses a large magnet, radio waves, and a computer to produce detailed pictures. A MRI shows bone, soft tissue, ligaments, Olympic Radiologyblood vessels, and nerves very clearly. This enables physicians to easily diagnose and treat illness, injury, and infection.

Once your MRI is complete, it is interpreted via a secured internet connection by certified radiologists at Olympic Radiology, located in Bremerton.

DEXA Bone Mineral Density Testing

Our team here at WestSound Orthopaedics in Silverdale, Washington is prepared to help assess your risk of osteoporosis and help you learn more about how to take preventative measures. Osteoporosis is a bone disease in which bone becomes weak. This disease is known as the "silent" disease as you can not feel your bones becoming weaker. Bone loss happens slowly, over time.

To start, your physician will order a DEXA scan. The absolute amount of bone, as measured by bone mineral density (BMD) testing, generally correlates with bone strength and its ability to bear weight. The BMD is measured with a dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry test (referred to as a DEXA scan). By measuring BMD, it is possible to predict fracture risk. In addition, you will be asked to follow up with your family physician or, if you don't have a family physician, you will be asked to meet with our in-house nurse practitioner to help you understand the disease, your personalized risk factors, and preventative measures.
